NIU International Community Concerned About Effects of Federal Immigration Order

After President Trump issued an executive order banning travelers from seven countries from entry to the US for 90 days Friday, the IU Office of International Services sent all international students an email outlining what the new restrictions mean to students based on their nationality.
In the meantime, I strongly recommend that any students, faculty or staff from a country specified in the order consult with our Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) before traveling outside the United States.Three more meetings are planned before Friday as the university works to answer global students’ questions about the president’s executive order and explain the resources available to them, including counseling, a USC spokesman said. The action Trump took Friday bars travel from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, and temporarily halts the entry of refugees from anywhere. In a letter to all UC students, vice-chancellor Rod Carr said the university was checking to see if any of their students or staff travelling for research or study would be impacted by the changes.

Those potentially affected members of the Princeton community were also given some information from a New York-based immigration law firm, Fragomen, that Prentice said has advised the university in the past.Pointing out that a federal judge issued a stay affecting parts of the executive order, Kaler continued that “this is an evolving situation, and we will continue to monitor it closely”.”I want to reassure everyone, especially our worldwide students and scholars, that the university’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and civility remains as strong as ever”, the email read. Trump’s order has not directly affected any of them, the school has said.”We also are in regular contact with other universities and national associations to understand the implications of the new policy”. My leadership team is monitoring the impact of the order. Furthermore, diversity and inclusion are foundational values of our university and necessary for Clemson to fulfill its mission.
